Location-Based Assignment (Due 2/20)

Find an existing work of art (performance, installation, etc.) that is location-based, site-specific, or site-oriented. Research the work thoroughly (documentation, interviews, reviews, criticism, etc.) and answer the following prompt:

Given the following three general characteristics of location-based work:

• It uses a location that is not explicitly created or defined for the work in question
• It responds to, or is contingent upon, the place that it takes place in
• The space/site is a major player or collaborative force in the work

Describe the work you chose and how it demonstrate location-based characteristics or concerns.

Choose one of the following properties of location and discuss how the work interact with that property:

• formal and aesthetic
• social, behavioral and functional
• historical and associative

Written response should be one page in length and due next class. Please consider attaching visual references as needed to communicate the work to us.
